This policy explains what Asterisk stores when you use the bot, the website, and vote rewards. Short version: we keep what we need to make commands work and keep servers from melting — not a dossier on your personality based on how often you /bleh.

1. Who this covers

This applies to the Asterisk Discord bot (client id 1070240993380679710), related operator infrastructure (including hosting such as Fly.io), optional vote webhooks (e.g. top.gg), and this website.

Discord is a separate company with its own Privacy Policy. When you use Discord, their rules apply too.

2. What we collect

Depending on features used, we may process:

2.1 Discord identifiers & context

• User IDs, guild (server) IDs, channel IDs, message IDs when needed for a feature
• Command usage context (which slash command was run, roughly when)
• Permissions-related data Discord sends so we can respond to interactions

2.2 Feature data you create

• Confessions / vents: message content you submit, guild/channel config, optional metadata for reports, appeals, and blacklists
• Moderation tools: blacklist entries, report notes, staff/dev actions tied to user IDs
• Config: which channel is set for confessions, vents, welcomes/goodbyes when those commands are used

2.3 Vote rewards

• User ID from top.gg (or similar) vote webhooks
• Timestamps, weekend flag, premium expiry, vote counts
• Command cooldown timestamps for roleplay commands
• Optional: role assignment in a support server you join

2.4 Website

• This static site doesn’t need an account.
• Basic server/access logs may exist at the host (IP, user agent, path) — standard web stuff, not a marketing profile we sell.
• If you click out to Discord, top.gg, etc., those sites have their own policies.

2.5 What we don’t try to collect

• Your password (we never see Discord passwords)
• Payment card data (votes rewards aren’t paid products through us)
• Precise GPS location
• Message content from every channel the bot can see “just because” — we process content when a command or configured feature needs it

3. Why we use it

• Provide the bot: respond to slash commands, post embeds/GIFs, run confessions/vents
• Moderation & safety: blacklists, reports, appeals, abuse prevention
• Vote perks: grant temporary premium, cooldowns, roles, thank-you messages
• Reliability: logs, debugging, keeping the service online
• Legal: comply with Discord’s requirements and applicable law

4. Legal bases (if you’re in the EEA/UK)

Where GDPR-style rules apply, we typically rely on:

• Legitimate interests: running a Discord bot people invited, preventing abuse
• Contract / steps to provide a service: doing what the command you ran asked for
• Consent: where required (e.g. optional DMs — you can close DMs anytime)
• Legal obligation: when we must retain or disclose something

5. Sharing

We don’t sell your personal data. We may share limited data with:

• Discord — because that’s where the bot runs
• Hosting providers (e.g. Fly.io) — infrastructure that stores databases and logs
• Bot lists / vote platforms (e.g. top.gg) — vote webhooks and their own processing when you vote
• GIF / media APIs — if a command fetches a reaction image from a third party
• Authorities — only if required by law or to protect people from serious harm

Server admins can see content that lands in their channels (including confession/vent posts).

6. Retention

• Config & feature DBs: kept while the bot is used in a guild / until removed or cleaned up
• Blacklists / moderation: until lifted or no longer needed
• Vote premium records: while active and for a reasonable period after expiry for abuse prevention
• Logs: short operational windows unless needed longer for security

If you want data deleted, contact us (section 10). We’ll help where we control the data — we can’t erase messages Discord or your server already shows to members.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical measures (access controls, secrets for webhooks, HTTPS on public endpoints). No system is perfect. Don’t submit highly sensitive personal data through confessions or public commands.

8. Kids

Asterisk is built for Discord communities that already follow Discord’s age rules. We don’t knowingly target children under Discord’s minimum age. If you believe a minor’s data was submitted inappropriately, contact us and we’ll take reasonable steps.

9. International transfers

Hosting and subprocessors may be outside your country (including the United States). If you use Asterisk, you understand your data may be processed where our infrastructure lives.

10. Your choices & requests

• Remove the bot from a server to stop new processing there
• Close DMs if you don’t want thank-you messages
• Don’t vote if you don’t want vote-related IDs stored
• Request access/deletion of bot-stored data via the same support channels used for Asterisk

We may need to verify you’re the account holder (usually via Discord user ID) before changing or deleting records.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will change. Continued use means you accept the updated policy. If we make a material change to how we handle personal data, we’ll try to surface it clearly.

12. Contact

Privacy questions: contact the Asterisk operators through the bot’s public support / listing channels (Discord App Directory, top.gg, or your known support server). Include your Discord user ID and what you’re asking about.

Human summary: We store IDs and feature data so /hug, confessions, vents, and vote perks work. We don’t sell it. Admins see what hits their channels. top.gg sees votes. You can kick the bot or ask us to clean up what we control.
